Family Session/Northern Neck of Virginia/Morattico, Virginia

Earlier in the summer, I had the chance to reconnect with some friends I hadn't seen in 8 years!  We were amazed by the number of years it had been but yet how easy it was to pick up where we had left off.   It really felt to me like I had just seen them the week before at a baseball game after work playing on the National Mall.  You see, we all used to work together at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, a law firm in D.C.  It was all the same...except, there were these kids running around now....  So that kind of brought us back to the present....  The last time I saw Kris her oldest girl was just a baby.  It was amazing to see this beautiful child, remembering the baby she had been.  She is so poised and very much into fashion.  So different from my little man, who was with us and only wanted to play with the Bakugan toys at the house.  But S, the little one, had an interest in the bakugan as well so they made fast friends.

Now let me tell you a little about this family session.  I met up with this family at my other friend's river house on the Rappahannock River in Morattico, VA.  I love the Northern Neck!!!!!!!  To me, it is one of my favorite parts of Virginia.  The towns are historic and you will see so many of those historical markers along the byways up there.  I'm a nut about those historical markers, I have to read every one!  George Washington was born up in that area and lived on a farm there and many of the other important figures of early American history were born in that area, as well.  There are still so many farms and watermen that inhabit the area and it is still so authentic.  If you want some great seafood, a trip to the Northern Neck is a must!  Now, as a photographer, whenever I get to shoot in a new location I pretty much feel like a kid in a candy store.  But give me a new location and beautiful light and I pretty much think I've died and gone to heaven!  The light on the Northern Neck is different.  Maybe it's the sun touching the fields of wheat in the late afternoon, or the glimmering of rays bouncing off the river, I don't know.  It's just lovely though.

I enjoyed my time up there so much that afternoon that I arranged with my friend to use his house for our summer vacation this year.  So, Sam, Maddox, Cullen (Maddox's first cousin) and I all spent about five days there in July and we couldn't have asked for a better time.  It was relaxing, peaceful, beautiful and invigorating. Thanks, David, for so warmly opening up your home to us.  It is truly a gem.  Finally, here are some of the pictures I took that afternoon of Kris and her girls.  I know these pictures only show a little of how lovely that area is, but I still hope you enjoy them.

Hampton Roads Child Photographer/Brother & Sister

Remember this adorable brother and sister?  My big man "N" is the little darling on the website posing as a newborn on his tummy on my beanbag prop.  That newborn shot is one of my favorites ever.  It is soooo sweet.  Look how big he is now at almost one year!  And sister "A" is so adorable with him.  She's a great big sister and you can just tell that they are going to have a great life together.  They both have such a sparkle in their eyes - irresistable!

Thanks for stopping by...

Angela + Mia/Norfolk Maternity Session

I had a fun session with a mom and daughter recently in downtown Norfolk.  Angela is expecting in May and hired me to take pics of her with her daughter as a surprise for her husband.  He'll never see this blog post before he gets the pictures so I haven't spoiled the surprise! :)  I love doing maternity sessions when it's a first child because the hope and uncertainty and excitement of the soon-to-be parents is palpable.  But I also really love doing the maternity sessions where it's a second child on the way and the first child is included in the session.  It is the documentation of a family growing and I'm helping this family record their own history.  That's pretty awesome and one of the many reasons I love doing what I do!  Thanks for taking a look....

Smiles, Baby Rolls, and Big Blue Eyes!

This little girl has it all!  I've had two sessions with her now and I just love taking pictures of her! Her parents are totally smitten and I love getting the interaction shots with them.  The pictures here are from both her 3 month and 6 month sessions.  The weather was so cold for both sessions but everyone was adventurous and we did go outside for a few shots.  I'm really looking forward to the 9 month session in May when we can enjoy the warmer weather and hopefully have the whole session outside!

Until next time,

Terri

Maritta

The beach session Maritta and I had planned for her maternity session was derailed when she called me to tell me she was on her way to the hospital.  The babies could be born any day.  So when I asked her if she would like me to come to the hospital for the session, she was ecstatic because she really wanted to document her "belly."  We decided it would be a black and white session because of the hospital florescent lighting, but when I got to her room, there was a wall of deep set windows with beautiful, natural light spilling into the room.  I did use some recessed lights in the room to give some shots a studio feel:

Maritta and Bradley told me a beautiful story about the watch.  On the night they met, he gave his watch to her to wear home to prove that he was going to call her the next day.  On every date they had, he would slip the watch onto her wrist first thing.  On their wedding day, as she stood before him at the altar, he transferred the watch to her wrist.  It was only fitting that she should wear it in a photo with their unborn babies.

Isn't she lovely?

We had so much fun with this session and now I can't wait to photograph the babies who did arrive three days later.  I just thought this was a sweet story/session to share with you on Valentine's Day.  Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
